SMC Debuts New Powerline Networking Adapters for Small Business
October 28, 2003 - TechWeb News

Home and small business networking vendor SMC Tuesday rolled out a new family of networking products for those markets that eschews traditional cabling and instead relies on the electrical wiring system to transmit data.
The new line of HomePlug-compliant products -- HomePlug is a standard backed by an industry association of the same name that uses in-home and in-business powerlines for high-speed networking -- from SMC includes two adapters and an all-in-one starter networking kit.

The adapters connect Windows or Macintosh machines to a 14Mbps HomePlug network via either a USB or Ethernet port, and will be priced at $79.99 each when they ship in mid-November, said SMC. The Starter Kit includes a pair of Ethernet-to-HomePlug adapters and costs $$149.99.

All three of the new HomePlug networking products are bundled with SMC's EZ Configuration Software, a management and set-up package that runs on both Windows and the Mac OS, allowing small businesses to network mixed-machine environments.
