Intellon
Delivers $10 HomePlug(TM) Solution for Embedded Market
New INT5200 Continues Intellon's Powerline Leadership With World's Lowest
Cost
HomePlug 1.0 Integrated Circuit
OCALA, Fla., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/
-- Intellon Corporation, the world leader in integrated circuits (ICs)
for high-speed powerline networking, today announced its third generation
HomePlug(TM) 1.0-compliant chip. The INT5200 is a completely integrated
single-chip powerline solution that brings the total add-in cost of HomePlug
below $10 for embedded designs such as desktop PCs, broadband modems,
media centers, networked audio devices and home security cameras. The
INT5200 is now available in production volumes, and is currently being
shipped to Intellon customers for use in new embedded products already
in design as well as a new generation of lower cost HomePlug adapters.
Intellon invented the baseline technology that was adopted by the HomePlug
Alliance as the industry standard for powerline networking.
Today, the company has
the dominant share of the global HomePlug market, with customers shipping
more than 50 products based on Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 ICs. The introduction
of the INT5200 builds on Intellon's success and enables customers and
partners to create the highest quality, least expensive HomePlug products
in the world."Our customers asked Intellon for a sub-$10 embedded
solution for HomePlug, and we are proud to again demonstrate our industry
leadership by meeting this aggressive goal," said Charlie Harris,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Intellon Corporation. "The
INT5200 is the result of years of customer enablement experience coupled
with significant semiconductor integration work on the part of our engineers.
Intellon has a significant market lead in HomePlug adapter volumes, and
we believe the INT5200 will allow us to continue this dominance in driving
the growth of the embedded markets." The INT5200 integrates a HomePlug
1.0 physical layer (PHY) and media access control (MAC), three host interfaces
including MII, Ethernet 10/100BT MAC, and USB1.1 device, and a complete
analog front-end (AFE) with receive and transmit amplifiers, all in CMOS
technology. This makes the INT5200 the most highly integrated and lowest
cost HomePlug solution in the industry. For customers that have used Intellon's
HomePlug SIMPLE(TM) module designs, Intellon has released a new version
of the SIMPLE module with the INT5200 on board. The new SIMPLE module
is pin-for-pin compatible with previous versions, ensuring that customers
will not require any redesign for these products. Intellon will exhibit
at CES 2004 in Las Vegas January 8-11. Intellon will show a wide range
of HomePlug applications developed by its customers, including broadband
sharing, online gaming, home security, networked entertainment and WiFi
range extension. The exhibit will also demonstrate Intellon's exciting
new high-speed PowerAV technology that can stream multiple HDTV programs
over existing electrical wiring in homes and small businesses.
